Maxis dan Will Wright (The Sims) membuat game simulasi terbaru untuk Electronic Arts, yaitu Spore, dimana anda akan berperan dalam kehidupan dan evolusi dari species hingga 5 miliar tahun. Game ini adalah penggabungan game casual, strategy, role playing dan action.

Anda memulai kehidupan sebagai organisme mikroskopis yang berenang di jaman purba, dan memakan mikroba lain yang ukurannya lebih kecil dari anda, sambil menghindari mikroba lainnya yang berukuran lebih besar.

Setelah banyak memakan mikroba-mikroba kecil ini, anda diberikan kesempatan untuk berevolusi dengan menggunakan layar edit di dalam game. Anda dapat menambahkan flagella (mirip cambuk yang bisa juga membuat karakter Anda bergerak lebih cepat) , cilia (rambut kecil yang bisa mengepak, yang membuat karakter anda dapat bergerak lebih cepat), serta defense atau pertahanan yang bisa membuat karakter anda bertarung dengan makhluk lainnya yang lebih besar.

Anda bisa menentukan perubahan atau evolusi mahkluk anda dari jutaan hingga miliaran tahun. Anda juga bisa menentukan jalan kehidupan karakter anda apakah akan menjadi herbivora (pemakan tumbuhan) ataupun Karnivora (pemakan daging).

Spore bukanlah seperti game massive multiplayer yang sudah sering kita mainkan. Setiap pemain menjalankan evolusi karakternya, dan karakter karakter tersebut akan diingat oleh server game, dan secara otomatis dipopulasikan ke dalam dunia game yang anda mainkan.
